Why I'm Running 26.2 Miles for These Kids
Kids are the future. If we want a healthier humanity tomorrow, we have to invest in them today.
Growing up, I remember what it felt like to not have the things other kids had. I remember wearing shoes I wasn't proud of. I remember being made fun of. I remember what that did to my confidence.
I also remember having to quit the track team because I couldn't afford cleats.
"At the time it felt like just another small loss, but looking back I realize how much those moments shape a kid."
Confidence starts with the little things. Sometimes it's as simple as feeling proud of the shoes on your feet. Your feet are your foundation. When a kid has the right shoes, they run differently. They walk differently. They believe in themselves differently.
Running the New York City Marathon has been a goal of mine since I was a kid. But this race is bigger than that. I'm running as part of the GROW Healthy Kids team because they are doing something powerful for children who need it most.
As a coach, a father, and someone who grew up knowing what it's like to struggle, I believe that small changes early in life can completely alter someone's future.
Every mile I run and every dollar raised helps give kids a stronger foundation. Because when we help kids stand on strong foundations today, they'll build a stronger world tomorrow.
